Mathias Landaeus – p

Johnny Åman – b

Cornelia Nilsson – dr

A tightly knit unit comprised of three musicians from different generations, the current iteration of Mathias Landæus’ trio have been inspiring audiences with their highly imaginative take on Scandi-jazz for over eight years now.

Based in southern Sweden the trio have become a sought after rhythm section much appreciated for their versatility and seamless interplay. Over the years Landæus Trio has performed with luminaries like Seamus Blake, Dave Douglas, Otis Sandsjö, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Rigmor Gustafsson, Lina Nyberg, Tim Hagans, Jonas Kullhammar, Goran Kajfes and many others. However, the trio’s strongest commitment have remained to their own music – and this is where their imagination and unique flavor come to full blossom, as can be heard on their new album Resilience as well as their 2022 Clean Feed album A Crisis of Perception.

”This captivating album, the latest from Swedish pianist Mathias Landæus, showcases his trio with Johnny Åman on bass and Cornelia Nilsson on drums. Together they prove there is still plenty of new ground to explore in this time-honored configuration.”

All About Jazz

”From a performance standpoint, all three members of the trio shine — their interaction is total.”

La Habitación del Jazz

”Throughout the album, the trio’s chemistry is unmistakable. Their ability to merge deeply personal inspirations results in a listening experience that is both moving and unpredictable.”

Paris Move

”It is simultaneously traditional and forward-thinking, like using a music history lesson to extrapolate the sounds of the future.”

The Big Takeover

”The trio taps into the most inspiring elements of jazz history. On one hand, their music evokes clear, familiar-sounding melodies; on the other, it plunges headfirst into complex, ever-shifting harmonic terrain.”
